Agartala: Dec 29: The plight of workers at Kailashahar’s Hirachhara Tea Garden is a dire one. Despite being the first tea garden in Tripura and housing around 600 worker families, the garden’s condition has deteriorated significantly. Workers haven’t received their wages, and when they demand payment, they’re mistreated by the garden owner, Mosabbir Ali .
Ali, who claims to own both Silkoot and Sunsine companies, has allegedly filed false police cases against the children of worker families. The workers have sent a written complaint to the authorities, claiming Ali is not the legitimate owner and is running the garden illegally.
The workers are now demanding the right to form a society to manage the garden themselves, ensuring fair treatment and compensation for their labor. This isn’t the first time workers have protested; earlier this year, they staged a protest blocking the Kumarghat road over destroyed tea plants .
The situation highlights the need for legal intervention to address the workers’ grievances. The authorities must take immediate action to resolve the issue and ensure the workers receive their rightful wages and benefits.
