Agartala: Dec 27: During a meeting held at the Agartala Town Hall to mark National Education Day, former Chief Minister and Politburo member Manik Sarkar encouraged party workers to unite and fight for the people’s rights. He emphasized the importance of combining unity and struggle, stating that both are complementary. He urged the workers to first approach the Block Development Officer (BDO) with local issues, then hold a meeting in the area if the issues remain unresolved. If the situation does not improve, he advised going to the District Magistrate and, if necessary, blocking roads or calling for a bandh. According to him, when people see these movements, they will understand that they are being fought for, and they will be compelled to join.
Sarkar further stated that merely speaking about imperialism and capitalism is not enough; the fight should also focus on basic human needs such as food, clothing, shelter, education, health, roads, drinking water, and electricity. He called for workers to be proactive in this fight and continue until the issues are resolved. He believed that by progressing step by step, incomplete tasks would be completed, which would eventually win the people’s trust.
He also criticized the current state government for its inefficiency and corruption. Referring to the Tripura Tourism Promo Fest 2024, Sarkar condemned the extravagant spending of nearly seven crores of taxpayers’ money. He also criticized the BJP and its stance on the Constitution, accusing them of trying to undermine it and manipulate it for their own purposes.
Sarkar expressed concerns about the political situation in Tripura, especially the rise of communalism and the challenges faced by the people. He cautioned against divisions between Hindus and Muslims and urged everyone to stay vigilant against such tactics. He also pointed out the failures of the Tipra Motha, which has failed to address basic needs like water, electricity, healthcare, and education. The meeting was attended by several prominent figures, including Radhar Charon Debbarma and former ministers Naresh Jamatiya and Aghor Debbarma.
