Agartala: Dec 03: A three-day regional training workshop on Minor Irrigation Census, Census of Water Bodies, First Spring (Waterfall) Census, and Major Media Irrigation Sensors was held today at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala. The workshop was inaugurated by Kiran Gitye, Secretary of the Public Works and Water Resources Department of the state. Present at the event were Priyanka Kulshreshtha, Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India (Ml Stat Wings), Additional Director General Ajay Bakshi, and former Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Tapan Lodh. Representatives from the National Institute of Hydrology, NIC, and Central Water Commission, along with experts from the eight northeastern states, also participated in this training camp.
Dr. Jayanta Debbarma, the Superintending Engineer in charge of Water Resources at the Public Works Department, explained that the workshop is being organized to conduct a survey on the amount of land being cultivated in the country, the extent of arable land, the underground water levels, the locations of waterfalls, and the irrigated land under the supervision of Media Irrigation. This initiative is a joint effort of the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the state’s Public Works Department (Water Resources). Dr. Debbarma also mentioned that a field visit would be conducted at the end of the three-day training program.
