Agartala: Nov 30: A serious situation is unfolding in Bangladesh, particularly concerning the persecution of minorities in the Chittagong region. Nabenendu Bhattacharjee, a spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura, expressed grave concern over the ongoing discrimination and violence against non-Muslim communities in the area. In a press conference today, Bhattacharya highlighted the historical context of Chittagong, noting that during the partition in 1947, the region had a 97% non-Muslim population. However, over time, the demographic has shifted dramatically, and non-Muslims now find themselves in the minority, facing systemic persecution.
Bhattacharya emphasized that various organizations are now contemplating taking the matter of Chittagong to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in an effort to bring global attention to the issue and seek justice for the oppressed communities. He pointed out that the persecution of minorities in Bangladesh, particularly in regions like Chittagong, is a critical issue that demands international intervention.
In the same press conference, Bhattacharya also thanked Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha and the Tripura cabinet for their efforts in filling vacant posts in government departments and creating new positions based on the state’s needs. These efforts, he claimed, are part of the government’s broader strategy to address unemployment and empower the youth of the state.
He further praised the BJP government for its work in making Tripura a self-reliant state, with a focus on creating job opportunities and enhancing youth engagement. Bhattacharya also spoke about the success of the “Namo Yuva” program, which has garnered significant participation from young people in Agartala. He contrasted this with the previous government’s inability to organize such impactful youth-oriented programs.
