Agartala: Nov 25: In August 2023, serious allegations of corruption surfaced against the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA). Several leaders of the then-current committee were implicated in these corrupt practices. The matter escalated to the Tripura High Court.
However, despite a bench being constituted by the Tripura High Court to hear the case, no arrests have been made of the accused individuals involved in the corruption scandal, even after a significant amount of time.
In protest against this delay, representatives of the current committee met with the Director General of Police at the police headquarters on Monday.
They inquired about the reasons behind the delay in arresting the accused, considering that over a year has passed since the allegations surfaced. After a lengthy discussion with the Director General of Police, they were informed that the matter was still under investigation.
Subsequently, the President of the Tripura Cricket Association, Tapan Lodh, along with other leaders, revealed that following the filing of a case against the TCA for corruption in August 2023, a bench was constituted in the Tripura High Court. They alleged that the previous committee, disregarding the general body, had awarded floodlight tenders to favored parties, engaging in corruption worth crores of rupees for the MBB Stadium and Narsinghgarh International Stadium.
Despite filing a police complaint, no arrests have been made even after the constitution of the High Court bench. When they inquired about this with the Director General of Police, they were assured that the investigation was ongoing and that they would see results in the next few days.
It remains to be seen how far the authorities will progress in this newly revived issue.
