Agartala: Nov 20: On Wednesday, a significant agreement was signed between the state government and Tata Technologies to modernize 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state, aimed at improving the quality of vocational education. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha, Minister for Industry and Commerce Santana Chakma, and Minister of State for the Department of Industry and Commerce Brishketo Debbarma.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to modernize training facilities and enhance employment opportunities for ITI graduates, thereby bridging the skills gap in the technology sector. The Chief Minister expressed his delight, stating that it was a joyous day for the state, as this partnership marks a significant step towards upgrading vocational education. He noted that while the 19 existing ITIs in the state had been upgraded long ago, their infrastructure needed modernization to align with current technological advancements. This initiative aims to equip these institutes with state-of-the-art facilities, particularly in the areas of physical and mechanical work, which will benefit students who had previously missed out on exposure to the latest technologies.
According to the agreement, a total investment of ₹683.28 crore will be made in the modernization of the 19 ITIs. Of this, ₹570.40 crore (86%) will be invested by Tata Technologies, and ₹112.87 crore (14%) will be contributed by the state government. The Chief Minister emphasized that this collaboration had been in the works for a long time and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wanted the state to progress without falling behind. He assured that the project would continue for five years, with provisions for teacher training and maintenance.
The modernization is expected to attract students to technical courses and encourage the industrial sector by providing a skilled workforce, contributing to the growth of the state’s economy. Senior officials from both the state government and Tata Technologies were present at the signing ceremony.
