Agartala: Nov 15: Tripura’s Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma has filed a defamation case against two senior Congress leaders, Asish Kumar Saha and Sudip Roy Barman, following accusations of corruption. The case, lodged in the West Tripura District and Sessions Court, stems from remarks made by Roy Barman during the September session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, where he alleged that Debbarma and his family had accumulated significant wealth through corrupt means.
Roy Barman’s statements, which were made publicly, accused Debbarma of indulging in corrupt practices, alleging that the minister and his relatives had illegally acquired properties. These claims, according to Debbarma, were not only unfounded but also intended to damage his reputation and political career. In his complaint, Debbarma contended that the allegations were baseless and malicious, designed to defame him without any factual backing.
The defamation suit against Roy Barman and Asish Kumar Saha, the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president, seeks legal redress for the damage caused to Debbarma’s personal and professional reputation. In his petition, Debbarma has reportedly sought both civil and criminal action, demanding an apology and compensation for the harm caused by these false accusations.
The filing of the case has escalated the ongoing political tension between the ruling BJP and the Congress in Tripura. While the Congress leaders have not yet issued an official response, the matter is expected to further fuel the political discourse in the state as both parties brace for the legal proceedings ahead.
