Agartala: Nov 10: In the smart city of Agartala, incidents of theft and snatching have been on the rise, causing concern among residents. Despite the police making several arrests of theft and snatching gangs, the incidents continue unabated. Even after these criminals are caught and imprisoned, many rejoin their gangs upon release, perpetuating the cycle of crime. The city’s residents are becoming increasingly frustrated with the lack of effective control over such criminal activities.
On Sunday, the East Agartala Police arrested two snatchers, recovering 10 mobile phones from their possession. The arrest followed a complaint filed by Krishna Majumdar on November 7, who reported that he was snatched of his mobile phone while on his way home from Maharajganj market. Following the complaint, the police formed a special team to investigate the matter. After a thorough investigation, the team was able to identify the members of the snatching gang and successfully apprehended two individuals.
The arrested individuals were identified as Sudip Das from Yogendranagar Renters Colony and Subrata Das from Pratapgarh area. The police recovered 10 smartphones from their possession. The police have applied for their remand and presented them in court on Sunday. Additionally, the motorcycle used in the snatching incidents was also seized by the police.
The police have assured the public that they are intensifying their efforts to curb such criminal activities. However, with repeat offenders returning to their criminal ways even after serving time in jail, the challenge remains significant. The local police are focusing on strengthening investigations and surveillance to tackle these rising crimes and ensure the safety of the citizens.
