Agartala: Nov 10: As part of an annual tradition, the 47th *Kathin Chibar Dan* (the annual offering of robes to monks) festival was celebrated on Sunday at the Benubun Buddhist Monastery in Agartala, the capital of Tripura. This festival, one of the most important religious observances in the Buddhist community, saw the participation of Buddhists from Agartala and various other parts of Tripura, just as in previous years.
The celebrations began early in the morning with a *Buddha Vandana* (worship of Lord Buddha). Following this, the *Buddhist Flag* was hoisted, marking the start of the festival. A *Buddha Puja* (worship), *Ashta-Parisakar* (eight cleansing rituals), and *Sangha-Dan* (offering to the monks) were conducted as part of the morning ceremonies. The monks also received their *Pin-dan* (alms offering), which is an essential part of the Buddhist practice.
The highlight of the day was the *Kathin Chibar Dan* (offering of robes) in the afternoon. This practice involves the offering of specially prepared robes to the monks after they have spent three months in retreat, living together in the monastery. The period of retreat spans from *Ashadha Purnima* (June/July) to *Ashwini Purnima* (September/October). During this time, the monks engage in deep meditation and reflection.
The *Kathin Chibar Dan* committee organized the event, with the head of the Benubun Buddhist Monastery addressing the media. He explained that this important event happens only once a year and holds deep significance in the Buddhist community, both spiritually and culturally. It is a time for the community to come together, express gratitude, and support the monks in their religious duties. The festival was marked by an atmosphere of devotion, peace, and unity among the local Buddhist population.
