Agartala, October 24, 2024 – Human trafficking remains a significant issue in the state, with recent incidents highlighting the ongoing infiltration from Bangladesh. Despite efforts by the Border Security Force (BSF), state police, and intelligence agencies, the problem persists and appears to be escalating.
In a recent development, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a Bangladeshi national, Ruhul Amin, late Wednesday night. Amin was apprehended near the 10th gate of UNC Nagar border, under the jurisdiction of Sonamura police station. According to Tapash Das, the Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRP police station, Ruhul Amin is suspected of trafficking Rohingyas into India and has a case registered against him at the GRP police station.
Acting on intelligence reports, the Agartala GRP and Sonamura police set up an ambush near the border gate. Ruhul Amin was detained as he attempted to enter Indian territory. He was subsequently produced in court on Thursday.
Authorities continue to investigate the extent of Ruhul Amin’s activities and are working to address the broader issue of human trafficking in the region.
