Agartala, October 20: In response to allegations from the Opposition CPIM, Congress, and the ruling BJP alliance partner Tipra Motha about a deteriorating law and order situation and increasing communal violence in Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha has asserted that crime rates in the state have actually declined, according to data.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday during a BJP membership drive event in the Town Bardwali constituency, from which he has been elected, Saha dismissed claims of political violence and religious polarization for political gain.
“Any incident might occur, but what’s important is how it’s addressed,” Saha remarked, emphasizing that policing is a priority sector for his government.
Addressing accusations that the law and order situation has collapsed, Saha said, “It is not so. Data reveals that the law and order situation is much better. If any incident occurs, it is crucial to observe whether the police are addressing it. For this government, the security of the people is above everything.”
Saha also mentioned that the government is considering strengthening the police intelligence wing to take preventive measures and further enhance policing in the state.
He stressed that the administration remains committed to maintaining public safety.
The remarks come as the BJP resumes its second phase of membership enrollment after the state’s Durga Puja celebrations.
Accompanied by senior BJP leaders, including Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, the Chief Minister participated in the digital registration of new members.
BJP aims to enroll 12 lakh members, nearly doubling its previous count.
Saha highlighted the success of the drive so far, claiming that six lakh members have already joined the party, reflecting public confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
As the state moves closer to vital Village Council elections, expected later this year, the dynamics between the government, opposition parties, and the BJP alliance partner Tipra Motha will be critical in shaping the political landscape.
