Agartala, October 19: In the wake of escalating tensions in Tripura, marked by the alleged custodial death of a tribal youth in South Tripura and recent communal violence in North Tripura that resulted in one death, 17 injuries, and widespread arson, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has urged his party’s youth to raise their voices against these incidents.
Debbarma, who leads the ruling BJP’s alliance partner, TIPRA Motha, emphasized the need for his party’s younger generation to stand up against the destabilization of Tripura’s peaceful atmosphere.
In an audio message on Saturday, the royal scion condemned the spread of communal tensions, suggesting it was a diversion from core issues like development, employment, and unity.
Without naming other political entities, Debbarma asserted that TIPRA Motha was formed to fight for the constitutional rights of the indigenous population, not to become a ‘B’ force to any party.
“We came to power to help people, not remain silent in the face of these attacks. If some of our leaders have become complacent and accumulated fat, I ask our youth: who is stopping you from raising your voice for truth?” Debbarma said, urging peaceful but firm protests against injustice, corruption, and violence.
He further encouraged his party’s youth leaders to advocate for harmony among all communities, including indigenous, non-tribal, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, and Christian populations, warning of and to identify those who are trying to sow discord in Tripura.
The TIPRA Motha leader’s remarks come at a politically sensitive time, with opposition parties like CPIM and Congress organizing statewide protests and attempting to hold the BJP accountable for recent unrest.
Debbarma’s call to action could shift the political dynamics as his party navigates its role in the ruling alliance while addressing the concerns of its core supporters.
As Tripura grapples with these challenges, Debbarma’s message may resonate strongly with those frustrated by the government’s handling of the crisis and signal a turning point for his party’s involvement in state politics.
