Agartala: Oct 08: A violent clash between two communities in Kadamtala market has led to the vandalism and looting of 65 shops and houses. The district administration has intervened to provide relief to the affected individuals. As a symbolic gesture, 20 people have received financial assistance of ₹5,000 each, with further assistance to be provided in phases. The police have arrested eight individuals involved in the incident.
The tensions in Kadamtala market escalated due to a dispute over fund collection, resulting in acts of vandalism, looting, and arson. The area remains tense, with strict security measures implemented under Section 163 of the new Criminal Procedure Code. All shops in Kadamtala are closed, and CRPF and PSR forces have been deployed. Vehicular movement has been completely halted.
Tripura’s Secretary of Finance, Brijesh Pandey, and Secretary of Revenue, Abhishek Singh, have arrived in Dharmanagar to assess the situation. The Assam-Tripura gate in Jherjheri has been closed, with some people crossing on foot.
The District Magistrate of North district, Debapriya Bardhan, SP Bhanupada Chakraborty, Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Debashish Saha, and other officials from TSR and CRPF forces are present in the area.
In a media briefing, North District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan and Secretary of Finance Brijesh Pandey shared their views on the situation. Chief Minister Manik Saha also addressed the incident last night, assuring that further steps will be taken soon.
The police continue to investigate and maintain order in the area.
