Agartala, October 4: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a massive protest rally in Agartala, accusing the Opposition parties, CPIM and Congress, of conspiring to defame the government through false and misleading information. The BJP claimed that the Opposition is intentionally spreading misinformation in an attempt to create unrest in the state and damage the ruling party’s reputation.
The protest, organized by the BJP’s Tripura Pradesh Sadar district, began from Rabindra Bhavan and saw the participation of thousands of party supporters and prominent leaders, including Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP state president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, and Minister Ratanlal Nath.
The leaders raised their voices against what they termed as a “malicious campaign” by the Opposition aimed at discrediting the BJP government.
Speaking to reporters in the sidelines of the rally, Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the Opposition for allegedly fabricating lies to mislead the public.
He stated, “The massive gathering here is a clear response to the false allegations made by the Opposition. Their actions are part of a larger conspiracy to defame our government, but the people of Tripura trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP’s leadership, as reflected in our consistent electoral victories.”
Saha emphasized that the BJP government is pro-people and transparent, and no amount of false propaganda by the Opposition will shake the public’s confidence in the current administration.
He also reiterated that the claims made by CPIM and Congress about the breakdown of law and order, food shortages, and unemployment in the state are baseless.
BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiments, stating that while opposition is a natural part of politics, it should be constructive.
He criticized the CPIM and Congress for resorting to falsehoods to undermine the government’s credibility.
“Over the past few days, we have seen repeated attempts by the Opposition to defame the government with baseless allegations. Today, we are standing here to expose the truth and reveal the real facts to the people of Tripura,” Bhattacharjee said.
He went on to explain that the government has been providing substantial relief to the public, especially in light of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and recent floods.
“Contrary to the Opposition’s claims of hunger and hardship, the government has been distributing free rice to large sections of the population, as promised by Prime Minister Modi. Additionally, after the floods, the state government declared further free rations to ensure that no one goes hungry,” Bhattacharjee added.
The BJP leader further criticized the Opposition’s allegations of a food crisis and law-and-order breakdown, noting that during the CPIM and Congress’s rule, several crimes and murders took place, with victims never receiving justice.
He argued that people now have greater confidence in the BJP-led government, which has shown a commitment to ensuring justice and development.
In addition to the rally in Agartala, similar protests were held across Tripura, where BJP members sought to counter the Opposition’s claims of rising atrocities against women, mob lynchings, unemployment, financial crisis, and corruption.
The ruling party maintained that these allegations are part of a false narrative and a conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the BJP led government of Chief Minister Manik Saha.
Recently the Congress and CPIM beside addressing the media had also organized separate rallies across the state including in capital Agartala against the government on these issues.
With the political atmosphere heating up in Tripura, the BJP’s protest rallies signal the party’s determination to push back against what it sees as an orchestrated campaign to undermine its governance and achievements.
As the confrontation between the ruling party and the Opposition intensifies, all eyes will be on how these dynamics play out in the coming months.
