Agartala: Sept 26: As Durga Puja approaches, the excitement among Bengalis is palpable. To cater to the culinary preferences of Bengalis, Padma Hilsa has started arriving in the markets of Tripura. For many, a festive meal during Durga Puja is incomplete without the prized Padma Hilsa.
Importer Bimol Roy announced that Tripura has received permission to import 3,000 metric tons of Hilsa from Bangladesh. On the first day, Thursday, 7 metric tons of fish arrived in the state, with more expected to arrive the following day.
Roy highlighted the high demand for Hilsa during this period. He noted that each kilogram of fish was purchased at a higher dollar rate, which will likely result in higher market prices during Durga Puja. Large-sized Hilsa is expected to be sold at approximately 1,400 rupees per kilogram, while smaller Hilsa will be priced at around 1,000 rupees per kilogram.
