Agartala: Sept 25: The recent peace agreement between the central government, the state government, and two extremist organizations, National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), has raised several questions. The agreement led to 584 rebels surrendering, but it’s unclear where these rebels came from, considering the groups’ decline in recent years.
The government has promised various benefits, including a monthly allowance, to these returnees, but those who surrendered earlier are still waiting for the fulfillment of similar promises made to them. This disparity has led to protests, with some returnees blocking the Udaipur-Amarpur road to demand attention to their unmet needs.
Critics argue that the government’s approach seems to prioritize those who were once perpetrators of violence over the victims who still suffer from the aftermath. Many people in Tripura remain refugees, having fled their homes due to extremist violence, yet the government’s response to their plight remains inadequate
