Agartala, September 17: While Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated across the nation, a unique tradition unfolds at the battalion headquarters of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) in RK Nagar, on the outskirts of Agartala. In addition to the customary rituals, troopers from the 2nd battalion partake in the distinctive practice of worshiping their arms and ammunition, a reflection of their deep reverence for their weapons.
This ritual has been observed for more than three decades since the formation of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) battalion, which played a crucial role in counter-insurgency operations in the state.
In recognition of its outstanding contributions, the Vice President of India conferred the President’s Colour on Tripura Police in January 2012. This prestigious honor, then awarded to only four police force in India, acknowledged their success in combating the three-decade-old insurgency while maintaining a strict record of no human rights abuses.
The troopers meticulously clean and arrange their firearms, vehicles, and other equipment before Lord Vishwakarma, the Hindu god of architecture and engineering.
Believing that his blessings will ensure the proper functioning and effectiveness of their weaponry, they offer prayers in a tradition rooted in the belief that Vishwakarma, who crafted the weapons of the gods, holds divine influence over tools and machinery.
According to Hindu mythology, Vishwakarma created the entire universe, including the chariots and weapons of the gods. This legacy inspires the troopers to honor their arms, hoping for favorable outcomes in their duties.
Beyond religious devotion, this day serves as an opportunity for the soldiers to strengthen their bond with the tools essential to their responsibilities.
The ritual symbolizes excellence and devotion, as Lord Vishwakarma, revered as the divine craftsman, inspires productivity and innovation among workers and engineers.
Seated atop his elephant mount and wielding symbols of knowledge and craftsmanship, he serves as a guiding force for those seeking success in their professions.
For the troopers of the Tripura State Rifles, Vishwakarma Puja is not only a religious observance but also a meaningful occasion that reinforces their connection to their duty and their reliance on the equipment that protects them and the nation.
