Agartala: August 24: Local MLA Sudip Roy Barman, along with state Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha and party workers, visited the family of the deceased hero, Chiranjit Dey, on Saturday afternoon. Upon learning about the incident, they expressed their condolences and sympathy to the family members.
The state Congress provided some financial assistance to the family. Sudip Roy Barman assured them of continued support in the days to come.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning around 11 am when the floodwater level increased in Indranagar. Chiranjit, along with two or three friends, went to rescue people near his house. While rescuing a woman and a child on a bamboo raft, the raft overturned, and everyone fell into the water. Although the woman and child reached safety, Chiranjit drowned in the chest-deep water. Eyewitnesses tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
Administrative officials were informed and arrived at the scene after about 3-4 hours to start the rescue operation. However, Chiranjit’s body could not be recovered immediately. Later, when the water level receded, locals found his body in a field on Friday afternoon and brought it to GB Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
