Agartala: August 13: In a show of solidarity with the victim of the alleged rape and murder at Radha Gobinda Kar Medical College in West Bengal, students and doctors of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding a thorough investigation and the resignation of the officials involved in the incident.
The protest was organized in response to the tragic death of a 31-year-old second-year postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College on August 9th.
The incident has sparked outrage across the medical community, with the Agartala doctors and students joining their peers in West Bengal to demand justice.
Speaking to reporters, representatives from AGMC and GB Pant Hospital expressed their deep concern over the incident. “This tragic event involving a female resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College has shocked the entire medical fraternity,” said one of the protesting doctors.
While another protester said, “We have gathered here to demand a transparent investigation into this case and to call for the resignation of the officials responsible.”
The protest saw a significant turnout, with doctors and students holding a rally within the hospital premises. They carried placards and banners, calling for justice and the implementation of central policies to prevent such heinous crimes in the future.
As part of the protest, the doctors and students have halted their work until 5 PM. While emergency and outpatient services continue to operate, undergraduate students have boycotted their classes for the day.
The protesters emphasized the need for swift action to address their demands, stating that they would not back down until justice is served.
The incident has highlighted concerns about safety and accountability within the medical community, and the protesters are determined to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The demands for a fair investigation and the resignation of the officials involved echo the widespread anger and frustration felt by many in the wake of this tragedy.
