Agartala, August 3: In a show of solidarity and humanitarian effort, Tripura’s CPIM leadership has come forward to assist the people of Wayanad district of Kerala, who are reeling from the devastating effects of a natural disaster.
On Saturday, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, former Minister Manik Dey and ex-MP Sankar Prasad Datta led a donation collection drive in Agartala to raise funds for the victims of Wayanad district, which has been severely impacted by landslides following incessant rains.
The landslide, occurring four days ago, has claimed over 300 lives and left many others injured. Hundreds of houses have been destroyed, and several villages remain affected as rescue operations continue.
The scale of destruction has prompted a nationwide appeal for aid, with Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urging citizens to contribute to the relief efforts.
In Agartala, Sarkar and Datta, along with other CPIM leaders and members, took to the streets to collect funds from the public. Their efforts saw businessmen, common people, and commuters alike generously donating to the cause, reflecting a widespread sense of empathy and support for the affected families in Kerala.
The funds raised during the drive will be directed towards providing essential relief and rehabilitation for those displaced by the disaster. This initiative highlights the commitment to social responsibility and community support beyond state boundaries.
As the rescue operations in Wayanad persist, the contributions from Tripura’s residents serve as a reminder of the collective effort required to overcome such calamities.
