Agartala, July 31: Two drug peddlers were apprehended by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Agartala railway station with dry marijuana on Tuesday evening, said Tapas Das, the officer in charge of the GRP station here.
The suspects were identified as Nitish Kumar Yadav, 24, and Kanhai Kumar, 24, both residents of Vishali district in Bihar.
The duo was arrested while attempting to enter the station through the parcel gate. During a search, authorities discovered 28 kilograms of dry marijuana in four packets concealed in their bags.
A case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The suspects were produced before the court today, where police sought remand for further interrogation.
Despite often destroying it cultivation by security forces, marijuana is illegally cultivated and much easier in getting in Tripura, is in high demand in Bihar due to its significantly higher market price there. This makes it a favored item for drug peddlers to smuggle.
