Agartala, July 15: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police from the New Capital Complex (NCC) station last night arrested three drug peddlers in the Barjala area of Agartala said a senior police official on Monday.
According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sushanta Deb, the arrests were made based on specific intelligence. The suspects were apprehended while distributing a large quantity of brown sugar.
Along with the drugs, police also seized cash and cell phones from the scene.
OC Deb confirmed that an NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) case has been registered against the arrested individuals.
All of them shall be produced in the court and seek their police remand for further interrogation to reveal more details about their network and activities.
The successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts by the Agartala police to combat drug trafficking in the region which has largely added to uncontrolled rise is HIV AIDS in the state among high-risk groups especially students.
