Agartala, June 29: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a drug trafficker of Bihar and seized a large quantity of ganja (marijuana) and in another success, contraband cough syrup bottles at the Agartala railway station.
Tapas Das, the officer-in-charge of the GRP station at Agartala said, “We have arrested a drug peddler from Bihar along with 22 kg of dry ganja yesterday and lodged an NDPS case against him in the GRP station.”
He added that during the interrogation, the arrested trafficker revealed that he purchased each kilogram of ganja at Rs 5,400, making the total value of the seized ganja Rs 54,000.
The trafficker will be produced in court today, where police will seek his remand.
In addition to the ganja, the GRP also recovered 15,070 bottles of unclaimed contraband cough syrups, including Phensedyl and Eskuf, inside the premises of the railway station.
The estimated market value of the seized cough syrup is around Rs 392,500.
Das indicated that the police have launched an investigation into the case to uncover further details and potential links in the drug trafficking network.
