Agartala, June 26: In yet another significant breakthrough, the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Agartala railway station successfully apprehended five individuals, including four Bangladeshi infiltrators and an Indian tout, in a late-night operation on Tuesday.
The group was attempting to board a train bound for Ahmedabad and Pune.
Tapas Das, the officer-in-charge of the GRP station at Agartala, provided details about the operation.
He confirmed that the group comprised four Bangladeshi women and one male Indian tout.
The Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Meem Sultana (23), Rubaiya Sultana (20), Ritu Begam (28), and Jyoti Khatun (20).
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the Bangladeshi women were seeking employment opportunities in Indian cities such as Ahmedabad and Pune. However, they lacked the proper documentation and visas required for legal entry and travel within India.
The Indian tout, identified as Md Kashem Miah (24) from bordering Sepahijala district of Tripura, is believed to have facilitated their illegal entry into the country.
A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station under Passport Act and Foreigner’s Act.
All five individuals are scheduled to be presented before the court later today, with authorities seeking police remand for further interrogation.
In the past few months, several hundred infiltrators, predominantly Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingyas, have been arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
This surge in arrests raises concerns about the security of the border, particularly as Tripura shares an 856 km international boundary with Bangladesh.
Despite more than 96 percent of this border being fenced with barbed wire, the influx continues to be a pressing issue.
