Agartala, June 25: Tripura’s Minister for Planning, Pranajit Singha Roy, along with Assistant Secretary Udayan Sinha, inaugurated the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Planning Department in the conference hall of the Secretariat in Agartala on Tuesday.
The primary objective of the PMU is to ensure the time-bound and target-oriented execution of various government development activities and schemes. It aims to provide systematic coordination and supervision for the implementation of these projects.
The PMU will offer administrative support for managing various state projects, including facilitating the project approval process, monitoring implementation progress, and providing related support services. Additionally, it will explore and manage funds from various central ministries to enhance state development through improved coordination between the central and state governments.
A key function of the PMU will be to monitor funding and expenditures to ensure accountability and transparency in the system.
Ernst & Young Global Limited, one of four big accounting and consultancy film has assigned as the PMU and set up at an approximate cost of Rs. 15 crore for a period of three years.
The unit will provide consultancy in 14 sectors (departments), including assisting the state in securing faster project sanctions under numerous central schemes.
Furthermore, the PMU will serve as an innovation hub, advising departments on future projects to foster state development and progress.
Minister Pranajit Singha Roy emphasized the importance of the PMU in achieving the state’s development goals and expressed confidence that it would significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of project implementation in Tripura.
Roy, who also the Finance Minister and who just returned from New Delhi attending the pre-budget meeting headed by union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman said that the state has kept 23 demands including for special fund to setting up of an AIMS like hospital, IIT, double laneing of the railway, NHs, logistic hub and for development of TTAADC area.
