Imphal: June 24: Today, women in Manipur gathered to protest against proposals for Separate Administration and recent arrests of Village Volunteers by Security Forces. During the opening session of the 18th Lok Sabha, they called upon the newly elected MPs from Manipur to address the ongoing crisis and work towards restoring peace and normalcy in the state without delay.
The women also appealed to the Government of India to handle the current unrest judiciously. They warned that if peace is not restored promptly, it could lead to heightened calls for separation from India by the people of Manipur.
The protest, led by Huidrom Binodini, Co-Convenor of the Khawairamband Ema Keithel Co-ordinating Committee, began with a sit-in at Khawairamband Ema Market, followed by a rally towards the Chief Minister’s Bungalow and Raj Bhawan. However, their progress was halted by the Imphal West District Police, leading to a tense confrontation between the police and the women protestors.
Despite the interruption, the women remained steadfast in their demand for peace and urged for immediate attention to the issues affecting Manipur.
