Agartala, June 15: Acting on specific intelligence, a Bangladeshi couple, along with four Indian agents assisting them in crossing the border, were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP), in jointly with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and other security agencies, at Agartala railway station on Friday night.
The operation was confirmed by Inspector Tapas Das, officer-in-charge of the GRP station at Agartala railway station.
The couple, who were accompanied by their child, reportedly had been residing in West Bengal and had arrived in Agartala the previous evening on the Kanchanjunga Express. They were preparing to return to Bangladesh by crossing the border illegally with the help of the agents but were apprehended before they could do so.
Inspector Das reported that during the search, the GRP seized Indian currency notes, Bangladeshi documents, and smartphones from the suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rupasi Rani Majumder and Sakul Chandra Baidya, both from Chanpur district in Bangladesh.
The Indian agents, all from the bordering area of South Ramnagar under AD Nagar police station in Agartala, have been identified as Laxman Sarkar, Dijen Nama Das, Sanjit Saha, and Suman Deb.
A case has been lodged against the arrested Bangladeshi citizens under the Foreigner’s Act, Passport Act, and Indian Penal Code (IPC).
All of them will be produced before a court with an appeal for custody to facilitate further interrogation to reveal their contacts.
Over the past few months, the rail police have successfully arrested several infiltrators, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, as well as drug traffickers and arms traders, at Agartala railway station. This operation marks another significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities and ensure border security.
