Agartala, May 13: Migrant laborers employed in brick kilns, organized under the Tripura Brick Kiln Workers Union and affiliated with the leftist trade union CUTU, staged a significant protest today in front of the office of the Commission of Labour department in Agartala.
Their demonstration aimed to draw attention to their unmet demands and seek redressal from the authorities.
The primary grievance voiced by the protesters was the non-payment of their final wages and the absence of arrangements for their transportation back to their home states by the owners of the brick kilns where they had been employed.
They viewed that generally, such issues are resolved through the intervention of the labor department, but the laborers allege a lack of initiative on the part of the authorities this time.
During the protest, the demonstrators engaged in a two-hour sit-in to underscore the urgency of their demands.
Following the protest, they submitted a memorandum to the concerned department, outlining their grievances and urging prompt action for their resolution.
The demonstration shed light on the challenges faced by migrant laborers, particularly those working in the informal sector, and emphasized the importance of protecting the rights and well-being of all workers.
