Agartala, May 13: Angry villagers from the Paijabari area, under Dhalai district in Tripura, took to the streets today, blocking the national highway near the BSF camp at Jawahar Nagar in Ambassa. Hundreds of vehicle on both sides were blocked due to the agitation.
Their protest stemmed from a dire lack of drinking water, which has plagued their community for the past three months.
Frustrated by the persistent water scarcity, despite numerous complaints to the authorities, the villagers expressed their grievances.
The protesters complained that despite repeated assurances from officials, the situation remains unchanged, leaving them with no alternative but to stage a protest to draw attention to their plight and demand an immediate resolution to their suffering.
According to the agitators, over 100 families in their locality have been forced to resort to consuming untreated river water due to the cessation of water supply through pipelines.
The root cause of this problem lies in the dysfunctionality of a deep tubewell managed by the Department of Water Supply (DWS), which has remained non-operational for an extended period without any efforts towards repair.
With the summer season exacerbating the already critical situation, the villagers fear that their predicament may escalate further if immediate action is not taken to restore their access to clean and safe drinking water.
