Agartala, May 11: In a joint operation conducted by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala railway station, nine individuals were apprehended, including eight Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian tout aiding their illegal crossing, stated a GRP official.
Inspector Tapas Das, overseeing the GRP station, speaking to our correspondent disclosed that based on confidential information, surveillance was heightened at the station, leading to the interception of nine suspects, seven of whom were women.
The operation unfolded around 7:30 AM when the suspects rushed to board the Kanchanjunga Express on platform one.
Upon interrogation, eight individuals admitted to hailing from Bangladesh, while one confessed to being an Indian who facilitated their train journey post-border crossing.
A case has been filed against the detainees under the Foreigner’s Act, IPC, and Indian Passport Act, with ongoing investigations to ascertain their entry point and accomplices.
Preliminary inquiries revealed their intention to seek employment as daily laborers in Mumbai and Pune.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in court, with authorities seeking custody for further questioning to uncover details regarding their entry route and facilitators.
