Agartala, March 28: Maharani Kriti Devi Singh Debbarma, the NDA candidate contending for the East Tripura constituency with a BJP symbol, embarked on her nomination day by seeking blessings at the Mangal Chandi temple located within the historic Ujjayanta Palace.
As part of her daily ritual, she also performed worship and fed ‘Gau Mata,’ (cow) emphasizing the significance of this tradition in her daily life—a practice she diligently maintains, also observed at her in-laws’ residence in Kawardha, Chattisgarh.
Kriti, the elder sister of Tripura royal scion and TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, has recently been at the forefront of political developments in the region.
TIPRA Motha, emerged as a significant opposition force with 13 MLAs in the 60-seat assembly. Earlier this month, TIPRA Motha forged an alliance with the ruling BJP in Tripura, marking a notable shift in the state’s political landscape.
Reflecting on the upcoming electoral challenge, Kriti expressed a calm demeanor, stating, “Every day brings new challenges, and I embrace them without tension.”
Her poised attitude underscores her readiness to navigate the complexities of electoral politics in Tripura.
The battle for the East Tripura constituency is scheduled for polling on April 26, with the contest primarily shaping up between the NDA coalition, comprising the BJP, Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), and its latest partner TIPRA Motha, and the INDIA block, consisting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the Congress.
As Kriti Devi Singh Debbarma steps into the electoral arena, the dynamics of Tripura’s political landscape are set for further evolution especially in the tribal political arena, with the upcoming polls poised to determine the direction of the state’s governance and representation.
