Agartala: Mar 21: A TSR jawan was killed after being hit by a speeding motorcycle at a Naka Point in Tripura’s Churai Bari. The jawan, identified as Sandana Darlong, belonged to the 13th battalion of the TSR and was on election duty on Wednesday night.
According to reports, Darlong tried to stop the motorcycle when it tried to cross Naka Point at high speed. The motorcyclist then hit Darlong, causing him to fall to the ground and sustain serious injuries.
Darlong was rushed to the Kadamtala Community Health Centre, but was later referred to the North District Hospital in Dharmanagar. He died on the way to the hospital.
North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty said Darlong died in the line of duty in the accident. His body has been kept at Dharmanagar morgue and will be handed over to the family after post-mortem. After that, the police will complete the last rites of the TSR jawan with due respect.
Meanwhile, the motorcyclist who hit Darlong has been admitted to the hospital with injuries. The motorcycle was going from Tripura to Assam and a large quantity of agarwood was found on it. This incident is yet another proof of massive smuggling of agar wood in Kadamtala Kurti area. What measures the administration takes in this regard is to be seen.
