Agartala, March 15: In a retaliatory move against Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman’s recent accusations, BJP Tripura spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee launched a counterattack, defending the BJP’s stance on various contentious issues and its alliance with TIPRA Motha.
Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in Agartala on Friday, Bhattacharjee addressed several points raised by Barman and reiterated the BJP’s position.
Bhattacharjee began by criticizing the lack of clarity from the central leadership of Congress regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), suggesting that the local Congress should align its stance with the party’s official position once it is decided.
He implied that until then, Congress has no grounds to criticize the BJP’s policies.
Responding to Barman’s questioning of internal changes within the BJP leadership, particularly the replacement of former CM Biplab Kumar Deb and two incumbent MPs Pratima Bhowmik and Rebati Tripura, Bhattacharjee dismissed it as an internal matter of the BJP.
He asserted that Congress has no authority to interfere in the internal affairs of the BJP or question its decisions regarding leadership appointments.
Addressing concerns raised about TIPRA Motha’s alliance with BJP potentially leading to its diminishment, Bhattacharjee deflected criticism by stating that it is not the responsibility of the BJP to safeguard or promote other political parties.
He compared the situation to the condition of IPFT, another BJP alliance partner, implying that it is not within the BJP’s purview to ensure the success of its allies.
Furthermore, Bhattacharjee took aim at the Communist party for its stance on the BJP-TIPRA Motha alliance, highlighting interactions between CPIM state officials and TIPRA Motha before the assembly election to form alliance.
He questioned the sudden change in attitude towards TIPRA Motha after failed negotiations, suggesting hypocrisy on the part of the Communist party.
