Agartala, March 13: In a significant political move, Maharani Kriti Singh Debbarma, a prominent figure hailing from Tripura’s Manikya dynasty and sister to Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the founder of the Tipra Motha party, has been named as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate for the East Tripura (ST)-reserved Parliamentary constituency.
Kriti Singh Debbarma, known as a ‘Maharajkumari’ or princess of the former Manikya royal family, is the youngest daughter of Late Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya, Pradyot’s father.
Her educational background includes schooling at Loreto Convent in Shillong and completing various courses focusing on environmental education and rural development.
She is recognized for her work in environmental conservation and sustainable development in the Northeast region, particularly in initiatives related to water management, watershed development, and rural projects.
Additionally, she has been actively involved in promoting organic farming, horticulture, and the preservation of indigenous cattle breeds.
Currently, Kriti Singh Debbarma manages the Palace Kawardha Heritage Hotel in Chhattisgarh, where she is married to Yogeshwar Raj Singh, a former Indian National Congress politician and scion of the Kawardha Raj royal family.
Singh, who previously represented the Kawardha Vidhan Sabha constituency, later resigned from the Indian National Congress due to perceived neglect from the party.
It’s worth noting that Maharani Kriti Singh Debbarma previously contested as an independent candidate from Kawardha in Chhattisgarh but did not secure victory.
