Shillong: Mar 13: The East Khasi Hills police has sounded high alert in Shillong . This is done following a joint operation by the East Khasi Hills police and the Ri Bhoi District police in which four people were arrested from Ri Bhoi and police seized a significant amount of explosive materials. With this an attempt to explode another Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Shillong and Nongpoh was foiled by the police. The development came in wake of the IED blast in Panjabi lane where one person was injured on 9 March 2024.
Superintendent of police, East Khasi Hills Rituraj Ravi said the patrolling in the city has been intensified. He said police have taken all kinds of precautions and at the same time urged the people not to be panic and if they come across anything or anyone suspicious they should immediately alert the police.
The SP further informed that the East Khasi Hills police will be seeking the Custody of the four individuals arrested in Ri-Bhoi by the police in a joint operation between East Khasi Police and Ri Bhoi police once the police custody in Ri Bhoi District is over.
It may be mentioned that the Police had arrested two persons on 11 March 2024 in Shillong and Dawki in connection with the IED blast at Punjabi Lane. Meanwhile
In a coordinated effort between East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi District Police, Meghalaya Police successfully thwarted an attempt by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) to detonate an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and arrested four individuals believed to be part of an active HNLC sleeper cell, they also recovered a huge cache of explosives from these persons.
