Agartala: Feb 25: In a pivotal turn of events, Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman, the former supremo of Tipra Motha and the Royal Scion of Tripura, has issued a stern warning. He plans to stage an indefinite hunger strike at the base of the Big Mound on February 28, demanding a constitutional resolution.
Deb Barman’s announcement came via his social media account after he visited the protest site alongside other Tipra Motha leaders. The party, which advocates for a separate state for the Tripuri people, has persistently sought a constitutional remedy to the longstanding “Tripura problem.”
The roots of this complex issue trace back to the region’s history. The Tripuri people, an indigenous community with centuries-old roots in Tripura, have consistently voiced their demand for a distinct state. Their argument centers on their unique ethnicity, language, and cultural identity.
Today Chief Minister of Tripura react on this and said that he do not want to comment on this matter, if something will be done government let will know to everyone. He mentioned that the government is looking in this issue.
Tipra Motha, as the primary political representative of the Tripuri people, has witnessed a surge in popularity. Their victory in the 2021 Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections bolstered the call for a separate state.
Deb Barman’s hunger strike threat marks a significant escalation in the ongoing “Tripura problem.” The central government’s response—or lack thereof—will determine whether further unrest looms over the region.
