Agartala, February 19:Candidates awaiting the results of the 2022 Selection Test For Graduate Teachers (STGT) staged a protest in front of Shikha Bhavan on Monday, urging authorities to expedite the declaration of results.
Expressing frustration over the prolonged delay, the agitators highlighted that 17 months have elapsed since they appeared for the STGT, yet the results remain undisclosed.
They emphasized the urgent need for the government to intervene and ensure the prompt announcement of results.
Pointing out the severe shortage of teachers in numerous schools, the protesters underscored the adverse impact on students’ education quality due to the delay in teacher recruitment.
They also raised concerns that prolonged delays could render some candidates ineligible for government employment due to exceeding the age limit.
Addressing Chief Minister, who also holds the Education portfolio, the agitators urged swift action to resolve the issue.
They recounted previous assurances from the Chief Minister regarding the commencement of the recruitment process, only to be met with further delays.
Asmita Deb, one of the demonstrators, emphasized the urgency of recruiting all qualified candidates simultaneously to address the pressing shortage of teachers in higher classes.
She lamented that despite the passage of 17 months, the government has failed to release the STGT results, exacerbating the recruitment crisis.
Rahul Saha echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the disconnect between the prolonged delay and purported reasons cited by the directorate.
He called on the Chief Minister to expedite the recruitment process and alleviate the uncertainty faced by aspiring teachers.
The protesters also raised concerns about the cascading impact of delayed recruitment on the scheduling of future examinations, such as the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), further exacerbating the plight of eligible applicants awaiting recruitment opportunities.
As tensions simmered among the STGT candidates, they reiterated their plea for urgent government intervention to address the protracted delay and ensure a timely resolution to their recruitment woes.
