Agartala: Feb 17: In a significant development, a delegation comprising members of the Kanchanpur Bazar Committee and local residents met with the Kanchanpur Subdivisional Magistrate today. The purpose of the meeting was to address the pressing issue of drainage water disposal in the urban area adjacent to the under-construction National Highway.
The delegation expressed their concerns regarding the lack of adequate drainage arrangements by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). NHIDCL, the company responsible for constructing the National Highway in Kanchanpur, has allegedly failed to implement effective drainage measures from Kanchanpur Kalibari to the nearby petrol pump. As a result, both sides of the road, including shops, houses, and agricultural land, are grappling with waterlogging issues.
The drainage system currently being constructed by NHIDCL is positioned well above road level, causing inconvenience to local businesses and residents. The delegation emphasized the urgent need for a revised approach, advocating for a drainage system situated below road level. Such a modification would benefit shopkeepers and the community at large.
In response, the Subdivisional Magistrate assured the delegation that he would promptly investigate the matter and take necessary steps to address the drainage challenges faced by the urban area. The commitment to finding a solution underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between local authorities and concerned citizens in ensuring the successful completion of the National Highway project in Kanchanpur.
