Agartala, January 28:In a successful joint operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended six drug traffickers at Agartala rail station on Sunday, seizing a substantial quantity of contraband.
Inspector Dipak Datta, Officer in charge of RPF at Agartala rail station, disclosed that acting on a tip-off about the transportation of contraband via the Rani Kamalapati Express, authorities conducted thorough checks on the backpacks of suspected passengers. This led to the discovery of a significant number of bottles containing the contraband substance Phensydel.
Inspector Sanjit Sen, Officer in charge of GRP station in Agartala, highlighted that the illicit consignments were being transported from West Bengal and Bihar to Tripura.
He emphasized that such seizures and arrests of illegal migrants during station checks are a routine occurrence.
During the operation, a total of 970 Phensydel bottles were found in the possession of six passengers, all residents of Bihar, except one currently residing in Gowala Basti, Agartala.
The police intend to file a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case against them. The individuals will be produced in court with a request for police remand, facilitating further interrogation and investigation to unveil potential accomplices within the drug-trafficking network.
