The 14th National Voters’ Day that echoed nationwide also found vibrant expression in Agartala on Thursday.
The main program was organised at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
Chief Secretary JK Sinha inaugurated the event, joined by CEO Puneet Agarwal, Tripura State Election Commissioner Saradindu Das, Olympiad gymnast Dipa Karmakar beside several new and future voters.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura said that the focus was on empowering voters for a safe, informed, and vigilant democracy, encouraging youth to cast votes responsibly and contribute to the country’s development.
The Chief Secretary commended the state’s voters for setting a record in the last assembly elections, emphasizing the need for awareness on voting ethics.
He appealed to new voters, political parties, and civil bodies to promote responsible voting.
Anticipating violence-free and fair upcoming elections, he expressed hope for minimal security force deployment in future elections.
Nation Voters’ Pledge was also taken on the day.
The event also honored select voters, distributing smart voter cards to new participants who expressed that it is a big moment for them as henceforth they shall also be part of the electoral process in choose the future leaders who are going to be elected.
This annual celebration, initiated in 2011, marks the Foundation day of the Election Commission of India, established on January 25, 1950.
