Agartala, January 9 : The State Government’s Department of Social Welfare and Social Education plans to open drug de-addiction treatment facility centers in every district of the state. These centers will be opened under the scheme of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Tinku Roy said this in a written reply to the questions of MLA Mina Rani Sarkar and MLA Jadbalal Nath in the question and answer session of the Legislative Assembly today.
Social Welfare Minister Sri Roy said that the Government of India approved a Drug Addiction Treatment Facility Center at the Modern Psychiatric Hospital in Narsinghgarh as per the proposal of the Health Department. At present, drug addiction treatment services are being provided by the government in the state from this center.
He said that the Health Department has taken the initiative to set up a 200-bed ‘Integrated Rehabilitation Center for Addicts’ in Sepahizala. A drug de-addiction center has been set up in Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council which will be operational soon. Besides, a proposal to open 2 drug de-addiction centers in South Tripura and Gomati districts has been sent to the Government of India for approval.
