Agartala, November 25. The baby girl who was sold due to scarcity was rescued by administrative action. The newborn baby is physically ill due to lack of nutrition and has been admitted to the hospital. Khowai District Magistrate Chandani Chandran said that an investigation will be conducted in the case of child selling. If the child’s guardian refuses to keep him/her with him/her, necessary further steps will be taken based on discussion with them. Incidentally, yesterday Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha ordered an investigation into the sale of children due to scarcity and this result was observed within a few hours.
Her father sold the newborn baby girl for only 30 thousand rupees. The incident at Banshipara under Mungiakami block of Teliamura sub-division has created a stir across the state. It has been alleged that Khokan Debbarma, a resident of Banshipara area, sold his daughter while keeping his wife asleep. After waking up and not seeing her daughter, her mother started crying. He went from door to door to get the child back. As soon as the matter became known, there was a great stir in the public mind. After this news was published in the local media, the administration was also shaken. Yesterday evening, the Chief Minister ordered an inquiry into the sale of children due to scarcity. After that, the Khowai district administration formed a special team to find the girl child.
In this regard, Khowai District Magistrate Chandani Chandran said, a team was formed under the leadership of DCM Saurabh Das along with police and Child Line. The team from Teliamura set out on a mission to find the baby girl who had been sold for want. He was found and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
He said that there will be a detailed investigation into the incident. Further necessary steps will be taken after detailed discussion with the girl child’s parents. According to him, initiatives will be taken to return the girl child to her parents. But if they don’t want to keep that child with themselves, the administration will think about what steps need to be taken next. If necessary, arrangements for keeping the baby girl in the home will also be considered.
A doctor at Teliamura Hospital said that the CDPO and the police of Mungiakami police station brought the baby girl to the hospital from Korbook at around 3:30 am today. The child has become physically ill due to lack of nutrition. So he and his mother have been admitted to the hospital.
The girl’s father said that she is very weak financially. He cannot afford to keep a child in a broken house and feed him. So he sold the newborn baby girl for 30 thousand rupees.
