Agartala: Oct 04: The flash flood occurred in the Teesta River in Lachen valley due to a sudden cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim. In an tragic incident 23 Army personnel missing after flash flood in Sikkim, the trooper are from various units.
The low lying areas of Sangkalang, Bringbong, Phiphang, Dikchu, Makha, Singtam, Rangpo, Melli are especially in danger of flooding and I urge the people of these areas to take necessary safety precautions. I also urge the Government of Sikkim to take swift action to provide rescue facilities and ensure shelter, provisions of food and other essentials for the people who have been affected or displaced by this calamity. It is urgent to provide relief and resettle the people affected by the floods. In time, the Government must also provide compensation to the people who have lost their life and property. I urge the Government of Sikkim to work in strong coordination with relevant agencies to provide swift relief to the public. The Government of Sikkim also has full support of the SDF party at this difficult time.
