Agartala, September 27:In a significant stride towards modernization and digitization, Tripura has become the fourth Indian state to embrace the e-Cabinet software.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday marked this historic moment by inaugurating the software during a ceremony at the Cabinet room within the New Secretariat Complex in Agartala.
In a ground-breaking move, he led his cabinet colleagues in their first-ever paperless meeting, using smart tablets for seamless communication.
The eCabinet software represents a robust digital portal designed for state governments to conduct cabinet meetings efficiently and electronically, eliminating the need for traditional paper-based workflows. Cabinet memos and minutes can now be prepared and circulated online, streamlining the decision-making process.
This move aligns with Tripura’s commitment to digital transformation, transparency, and accountability within its administration. The state government has embarked on a journey to hold fully automated, paperless council of ministers’ meetings, setting a precedent for other regions to follow.
On the same day, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha recognized and honored 100% e-Office achievers from various offices, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to the digitization efforts.
In his address, the Chief Minister emphasized that digitalization would not only bolster e-governance but also align with the broader Digital India initiative. This transition promises to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability throughout the state’s administrative system.
Dr. Saha elaborated on the e-Cabinet application, highlighting its features that allow the uploading of Cabinet memos with date and time stamps. These memos can be reviewed and approved online by secretaries, chief secretaries, relevant ministers, and the Chief Minister himself. The application also facilitates secure and private communication with concerned departments and offices.
Furthermore, the e-Cabinet system is expected to eliminate the delays associated with physical movement of paper documents, infusing dynamism and security into the Cabinet decision-making process.
The Chief Minister extended his gratitude to the IT department for the swift development and implementation of this transformative system.
Meanwhile, Tripura’s IT Minister, Pranajit Singha Roy, shared that the state government had initiated a mission to convert all offices into e-Offices on May 8th of the same year.
He said that the IT department played a pivotal role in this initiative, including workforce training. Currently, over 4,000 personnel have already undergone training, and 41 out of 94 departments in the state have completely adopted e-Office practices. The goal is to make all offices paperless by December.
The numbers reflect substantial progress, with 4,205 officials already trained, and an average of 1,800 officials using e-Office daily. Additionally, out of 1.15 lakh files, 53,000 have been scanned, and a staggering 84 lakh pages have been digitized.
By the end of the year, the remaining 53 departments are set to undergo complete digitalization, marking a remarkable leap into the digital age for Tripura’s administration.
