Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Anupriya Patel who was on a two days visit to Tripura on Wednesday visited Sepahijala district and reviewed the implementation of various developmental initiatives and schemes of the union government in that district.
The MoS had a long discussion with Nabadal Banik, chairman of Tripura Industry Development Corporation, District Magistrate Vishal Kumar, MLA Tafajjal Hossain and senior officials of various departments regarding the ongoing project for industrial development and exploration the scope of trade with Banglasesh which surrounds Tripura from three sides.
She said that among the Himalayan states, Tripura is in the fourth position in export and which has significantly increased in recent years.
The Minister assured that to further promote trade with the neighbouring country her department has worked out a comprehensive strategy and shall also finance for infrastructure development for the purpose like border haat, special economic zones, unity mall and land customs in order to facilitate cross border trade and economic growth.
She informed that the Ministry of State for Commerce and Industry has taken steps to increase and promote rubber plantation in the North East region and has targeted to cover two lakh hectares area under rubber plantation.
Earlier she also visited a rubber plantation and proposed tyre factory site in Sepahijala beside the industrial park at RK Nagar in West Tripura district.
