Agartala, August 1. Finally, the 12-year-old minor got justice. The court sentenced the abusive stepfather to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
On June 1, 2022, around 5 pm, the victim’s mother left her 12-year-old daughter with her second husband at a rented house in Bhattapukur and went to work. The victim’s mother worked as a cleaner at Hapania TMC Hospital. On that occasion, accused Amar Nama (35) father-deceased Nikunj Nama, i.e. stepfather of the victim, raped the 12-year-old girl at around 10 pm.
The victim’s mother filed a case against him at Agartala West Police Station. In view of this, the investigating officer of the incident, Munna Majumdar, started the investigation under the POCSO Act. After investigating the case, the Investigating Officer has submitted a chargesheet to the court under Sections 376(2)(F)/376(AB) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, West Agartala announced the verdict in this case on July 31. Accused Amar Nama has been sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 30,000. A further 6 months imprisonment has been announced.
