Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the chairman of TIPRA Motha, has called on his party leaders to maintain pressure both inside and outside the assembly to compel the central government to meet their demand for Greater Tipraland. Speaking to NEL, Debbarma accused a faction of local BJP leaders in Tripura of attempting to divide his party, and he lodged a complaint against them with the BJP’s central leadership. He revealed that certain individuals were offering money and positions to TIPRA Motha leaders and elected representatives, encouraging them to defect and form a new party. Speaking at a gathering in Madhab Bari, Debbarma emphasized the importance of unity and continued protests to force New Delhi to address their demands. He vowed that his party would not repeat the mistakes made by IPFT in 2018, which joined the government without securing written commitments on their core demand for Tipraland. Debbarma warned those within his party who sought power and money that joining the government would weaken their ability to advocate for Greater Tipraland, which is crucial for protecting the rights of the Tiprasa people. He even urged those who desired money and positions to leave TIPRA Motha, as he would not compromise on the demand for Greater Tipraland. Debbarma hinted at a significant reshuffling of office bearers and leaders within TIPRA Motha, with new faces expected to emerge by mid-month following decisions made by the core committee.
