International Museum Day was celebrated in the state along with the entire country today under the initiative of the Tripura Government Tourism Department. As part of the celebration of the day, Tourism Minister Sushant Chowdhury started the program by lighting Mangaldeep at a discussion circle and interesting cultural program organized by the Department of Tourism at Ujjayant Palace and State Museum in the capital Agartala on Thursday evening. Speaking at the event, Minister Sushant Chowdhury said,
The International Museum Day is being celebrated today with various programs in our state along with the whole world under the initiative of the Tourism Department. He said, “I am very happy that today as part of the celebration of the day, the women’s museum has been given the opportunity to visit the Ujjayant Palace and the State Museum premises free of charge. Apart from this, the residents of the Child Care Institution at Abhay Nagar in the capital Agartala have been taken to the museum on the initiative of the Tourism Department. The significance of this day is highlighted every year with a slogan to create research opportunities for students-teachers-researchers and scholars and global citizens learn to think about museums and their heritage. This year the theme of the day is “Museums, Sustainability and Prosperity”. He said, we all know that a museum is an institution where the collection of archaeological artifacts is preserved. Museums collect and preserve objects of scientific, artistic and historical importance and display them to the public. Each object kept in the museum carries a history with it. Interest or curiosity about museums is still seen in the new generation. A museum is like a history book; Each of its signs is like a page of a history book. A true museum is a place where time is transformed into space! Therefore, on International Museum Day today, we should all pay special attention to creating public awareness about museums as well as preserving them, so that the people of any time along with the new generation can know the traditions, culture, civilization, philosophy, knowledge of their past or their predecessors. Because these museums create a connection between the past and the future. Interest or curiosity about museums is still seen in the new generation. All these issues are still relevant today, so in today’s context of International Museum Day, those who are entrusted with the responsibility of managing these museums have to take an important role in this regard. Only then will the celebration of International Museum Day be worthwhile. Tourism Minister Sushant Chowdhury also said,
Today’s museum is a reflection of the idea of establishing a museum of the previous era under the influence of the changing global situation, social and cultural needs in the course of evolution. The museum is a reflection of all the history that has been accumulated since the beginning of the world till today. Our State Museum Ujjayant Palace also houses many historical and cultural monuments related to our state. There are various souvenirs, coins, vessels, souvenirs, maps, tangible and intangible materials related to humanity, and recorded history. Today, I would like to appeal to the new generation of school and college students, if you get a chance, you must visit any local or foreign museum with a group of friends and share your experience with everyone. Through this, others will also be interested in the museum. What better time to remember and share the unknown history of our country and state through museums than the nectar festival of freedom. It is a matter of pride for our country that the nectar festival of freedom is taking the form of a mass movement. People’s interest in history has grown a lot and the country’s various museums have become a source of attraction for the youth, connecting them with the country’s priceless heritage. Museum is an important institution to present the history, tradition, education, culture of a nation to local and foreign visitors. Our 21st century modern museum is a memory, an aesthetic, a document of legacy, a carrier of intellectual innovation, a repository of knowledge of culture and society. Our state museums bridge our cultural heritage, memory and history. So it is my responsibility to preserve and maintain it. Tapan Kumar Das, Director of Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Limited, delivered the welcome address in today’s event.
