Agartala: Feb 21: International Matribhasha Diwas was celebrated with due dignity on Tuesday. Martyrs’ Day was also celebrated at the office of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. 71 years ago on February 21, 1952 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, many people sacrificed their lives to preserve the dignity of mother tongue Bengali.
Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, Shafiul, Jabbar were among the language soldiers that day. 21st February is a symbol of eternal inspiration to Bengalis. Along with the whole world, the International Mother Language Day was celebrated with due dignity at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office in Agartala. On this occasion, the day was formally started by placing wreaths at the temporary Shaheed Bedi of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner’s Office in Agartala. On the occasion of Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, the national flag of Bangladesh was kept at half-mast at the office of Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner. On this day, on the occasion of International Language Day, a cultural program was performed along with paying tribute to the heroes who sacrificed themselves for the recognition of Bengali language. The First Secretary of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office at Agartala congratulated everyone on International Mother Language Day. There was no opportunity to celebrate the day in a big way for the election. The day is being celebrated at the Embassy premises.
School students are participating in this event. The discussion meeting was attended by the secretary of the education department and the personalities who contributed to the liberation war. In 2000, UNESCO declared this day as International Mother Language Day. This year’s theme is radical change and quality transformation in education through multilingual teaching. Besides, on this day, many people pay respect to the day by posting various posts on social media.
