Agartala: Feb 15: Thirteenth Assembly election on Thursday. The Election Commission has adopted strict management for border areas to ensure free, peaceful and fair polling. India, Bangladesh international border has been sealed. At the same time, the commission has directed the BSF to conduct strict surveillance on the border.

On February 16, Border Guards have been directed to extend assistance to voters living across the barbed wire border between India and Bangladesh to exercise their right to vote. The list of 139 voters has been given to BSF. On Wednesday, it was observed that the BSF is conducting surveillance on the Lankamura border near the capital. Patrolling is going on continuously. Section 144 will be in force in all border areas like across the state in the evening.
BSF jawans are on alert to avoid all kinds of acts of sabotage. BSF has paid special attention to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. Contact is also being maintained with the BGB on the other side of the border. If any kind of discrepancy is detected, prompt action will be taken by talking to BGB. Schools along the border have booth centers for Indian citizens amid the barbed wire. Biometric machines are installed at each gate. Only those whose names are on the voter list will be allowed to go to the polling station, so that no other person can cross the border and enter the Indian Territory. There are 28 families on the other side of the barbed wire border in the Lankamura border area adjacent to the capital. There are about 60 voters among them. BSF will provide all possible assistance to voters in casting their votes. A BSF official said that such initiatives have been taken to ensure 100 percent voting. Extra precautions are being taken in the border areas ahead of the elections. Additional border guards have been deployed.
